During the mid-80’s, Little Italy was not as progressive as of today until a group of local business owners started to build a public benefit corporation in 1996.  This was known as the Little Italy Association.  This was created to improve the environment and economy of the place.  The whole area was renovated and the streets were properly cleaned.  Public benefit corporations like this has long been operating all over the country together with Oakland, Calif., and San Francisco.  Its main purpose is to revive every neighborhood that needs adequate attention.  Among those that were given attention, Little Italy is one of the best illustrations.
